Several killed in attack: “Terrorists” storm the Karachi stock exchange

First they throw grenades, then they open fire: four armed attackers storm the stock exchange building in Pakistan’s financial metropolis Karachi. Several people die – including the attackers.

Seven people died in an armed attack on the stock exchange in Pakistan’s financial metropolis Karachi. Among the dead were four security guards, a police officer and a civilian, the police said in the Pakistani financial metropolis. Four “terrorists” were also killed. The authorities blamed a militia from Baluchistan province for the attack.

Police also said security forces “seized modern automatic weapons and explosive materials from the terrorists.” The Edhi security service put the number of deaths at seven, and there were also seven injuries.

As the Karachi police chief, Ghulam Nabu Memom, explained, the attackers drove a vehicle to the stock exchange and threw a grenade at the building. Then they opened fire. Videos of local media showed how security forces cleared the area around the stock exchange building. Shots and explosions could be heard again and again. According to reports, there were around 1,000 dealers and employees in the building at the time.

The port city of Karachi has long been one of the focal points of crime and political violence in Pakistan. However, the situation has stabilized in recent years.
