Seventh Generation iPad Pro: Release Date, OLED Display, and Potential Price Increase

The seventh-generation iPad Pro should go on sale in the first half of next year
The OLED display will be one of the main innovations for Apple’s tablets, but due to the expensive production, the next models will probably be more expensive

Apple should begin mass production of the seventh generation iPad Pro with OLED displays early next year. This follows from the information of research firm Omdia, which was first published by a Korean technology website The Elec. This fueled speculation from the beginning of this year, according to which the technology giant from Cupertino is preparing to deploy OLED panels in other devices, namely iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. It is expected that with the arrival of new screens, the diagonals of the upcoming models will increase slightly – from 11 to 11.1, or from 12.9 to 13.

The main advantages of OLED technology compared to current LCD panels include higher brightness, more contrast and accurate color reproduction, and lower battery consumption. As can be seen from the previous paragraph, Apple has already installed OLED displays in the latest iPhones and Apple Watches.

Apple is said to use very thin hybrid OLED displays with a combination of flexible and rigid materials, thanks to which the novelty could have a slightly thinner construction. According to Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants, these panels will be very expensive to produce, so buyers will likely pay more for the upcoming models.

2017 and newer iPad Pros support ProMotion technology, which supports a variable refresh rate between 24 and 120 Hz. Moving to OLED would likely allow the refresh rate to drop below the 10Hz mark, which should lead to longer battery life. Let us remind you that the iPhone 14 Pro screen reaches a frequency of only 1 Hz in always-on mode.

The current iPad Pro model series entered the market last October, offering a powerful M2 chipset, support for fast Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Taking into account the fact that there is usually a gap of 1.5 years between individual generations, the arrival of new models can be expected in the first half of next year. Those interested will have to wait a little longer for the first MacBook Pro with an OLED display, according to researchers from the Omnia company, its release is not expected until 2027.
