Seven countries joined EU sanctions against Belarus

Seven non-EU states support sanctions against Minsk

This is the fourth package of restrictive measures adopted in response to Minsk’s interception of the Ryanair plane and the detention of Protasevich.

Seven states that are not members of the European Union have joined the community sanctions against Belarus. This is stated in press release Of the EU Council, promulgated on Tuesday 6 July.

The decision to introduce restrictive measures against the republic was made by the authorities of North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

It is on joining the fourth package of EU sanctions regarding Belarus, adopted on June 21 in response to Minsk’s interception of a Ryanair plane and the arrest of Belarusian opposition leader Roman Protasevich.

“The decision means that the national policies of the countries are in line with the decision of the EU Council. The European Union takes this commitment into account and welcomes it,” the press release said.

Recall Alexander Lukashenka threatened Western countries restrict the transit of goods from Germany through the country’s territory to China and Russia, if Europe “will escalate the situation with new stages of sanctions.”
