Seven butroneros specialized in sabotage of alarms and cancellation of security systems arrested in Madrid

The National Police has detained seven butroneros in the Community of Madrid who were part of a traveling group specialized in committing robberies with force using the butron method, some of these robberies have occurred during the state of alarm, causing economic damage of more than 155,000 euros.

The agents have carried out eight searches, intervening numerous tools intended to commit robberies with force and two firearms. The investigated are charged with seven robberies with force in a jewelry workshop, a hardware store and five companies in Madrid (3) and Zamora (2). Those arrested had great professionalism in handling oxyfuel torches and frequency inhibitors and with technical knowledge to deactivate alarms.

The investigation began in January

The agents learned of the commission of a robbery with force in a company in Zamora in January, where the authors stole 90,000 euros in cash from a safe. From that moment, the police determined the existence of a criminal group whose members -some of them old acquaintances of the police- would be specialized in the violation and sabotage of security and alarm systems, as well as opening safes by the use of oxyfuel torches.

With the progress of the investigation -and new members have been identified- the agents verified that, despite the state of alarm generated by COVID-19, some of its members continued with criminal activity. Specifically, last March another robbery took place with force in a company in the Madrid town of Rivas Vaciamadrid. On this occasion, the authors of the events stole a gold bar weighing 300 grams, valued by the owner at 11,000 euros, in addition to 18 gold rings valued at 2,500 euros and 1,800 euros in cash.

Two attempted robberies were carried out during the alarm state

Also, and during the state of alarm, the agents became aware of the commission of two robberies with attempted force in a jewelery workshop and in an advertising studio in the center of Madrid. After several police efforts, the agents also determined the participation of some of the members of the investigated group in a butron that occurred last December in a hardware store in Madrid. After breaking the safe, they stole watches and jewelry valued at more than 50,000 euros.

Investigators highlight the detainees’ vast experience and professionalism, as well as their knowledge of police investigative techniques, which only made their identification and arrest more difficult. Furthermore, the modus operandi used demonstrates a high specialization of the investigated and the perfect handling of tools -such as torches for oxyfuel or frequency inhibitors- on their part, as well as technical knowledge for the deactivation of alarms.
