Seriously ill coati stolen from animal rescue

Who is doing that? In Altwarmbüchen near Hanover, strangers stole a coati on Friday night. The animal had only recently been taken to the animal rescue service. “The coati urgently needs medical treatment, it is in poor condition,” writes Wildtierhilfe Isernhagen on its Facebook page.

Stolen coati has fresh surgical scars and an amputated tail

As reported by the “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung”, the coati was spotted at a nearby military training area last week. The Wildlife Aid moved out and caught the native American animal. The animal rights activists found that the coati had recently been operated on and that its tail had been amputated. The animal should be nursed up at the wildlife aid quarantine station.

“We are still horrified, sad, angry and in shock about such cruelty,” writes Wildtierhilfe on Facebook. Now the point is that “the little man comes back to us as quickly as possible and can be treated”. The kidnappers could also park him in a box or report anonymously – the main thing was that the animal could be rescued.

Wildtierhilfe Isernhagen has set up a donation account

Thanks to information on Facebook, Wildtierhilfe has now a donation account set up so that a finder’s fee can be offered. “Unfortunately, sometimes you can only reach your goal with money,” writes Wildtierhilfe in another post. Whoever gives “the decisive tip to secure the bear” or hands over the animal will receive the sum. If the campaign didn’t work, the money would be returned to each donor.

It is still unclear who actually owns the coati. The animal did not have a chip that would allow identification. The police are investigating.
