Lucca, February 13, 2020 – Fear for one 14 year old student remained under the wheels of the school bus. It happened at 1.30 pm in front of the Busdraghi Agricultural Institute of Mutigliano in the noise of leaving the school. The boy would first fall to the ground and then end up under the heavy maneuvering vehicle, which seriously injured him, under the eyes of his companions. To rescue him, the intervention of the fire fighters who used a special air cushion to lift the bus. The student was conscious but reported serious injury to the arms and legs. He was transferred with the Pegaso helicopter to the Cisanello hospital. On the spot also the municipal police and the state police for the appropriate investigations. There is controversy over the danger of the maneuvers carried out by the buses in the square in front of the school, a situation reported several times by the trade unions themselves.

“We have been reporting the dangerous situation for yearsor of the square in front of the church where our vehicles in service serve the school of Mutigliano – say the trade union representatives of the category -. We have reported this to the prefect, the mayor, the company, on several occasions. The answers have always been interlocutory, with vain and never materialized promises. Similar cases have already happened in Pontedera and Mologno, we have tried everything for everything so that they do not repeat themselves here too. The boys are exuberant, we know that. And putting them in a square where a circular must maneuver is not appropriate. Even the road itself, uphill from the area of the cross to the square in front of the school, was too narrow and after years of insistence we managed to get the traffic light that regulated the alternate transit. For a while, before the traffic lights, the stop was right in the area of the cross, more inconvenient for students but safer. It is not even so easy to understand how a density of schools can be created – as in the case of Mutigliano – without adequate viability. Conditions which, unfortunately, as we have been denouncing for years, determine one persistent risk situationor, especially if associated with the exuberance of the boys when leaving school. Our thoughts go to the boy’s family involved in the terrible accident, and the our solidarity with the driver which unfortunately will always carry within itself the signs of what happened “.
