A sportswoman fell in the women’s race on Sunday morning.

She was injured and flown to the hospital by rescue helicopter. It is currently unknown how severe the injuries are. During heavy downpours, there were frequent falls, especially in the corners.

After 96 kilometers, ex-world champion Lisa Brennauer (32) secured the women’s victory, defending her title from the previous year.

She won ahead of Charlotte Becker and Tanja Erath. For the 32-year-old from the Allgäu, it is already the third championship title in the road race. “That was anything but easy. My teammates worked a lot for me. I’m glad we made it,” said Brennauer,

Surprisingly, Marcel Meisen won the men’s competition.

Marcel Ackermann, who actually started the race as the favorite at the Sachsenring, came in second. Third was Alexander Krieger, a team colleague of Meisen at the Alpecin-Fenix racing team. “Stay cool and trust in your own strengths. I knew that the rain suited me. The ascent before the finish also suited me. I immediately noticed that I had a good punch. I have the Corona time quite well used “, said surprise winner Meisen.

The German championships should actually be held in Stuttgart in June. Because of the corona-related cancellation, the Sachsenring, where the 2019 championships already took place, stepped in as the host.

The races took place under strict Corona rules. No more than 1000 spectators were allowed and the drivers had to wear a face mask outside of the race.
