A passenger car crashed into a tree for unknown reasons. The impact was so hard that the engine and dashboard were thrown out of the car.

Engine block
The driver may also have been thrown out of the car. He was in a field next to the road. The man was seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital in Zwolle by ambulance.

Another car collided with the engine block on the dark road shortly after the accident. The occupants of this second car were released with a fright.

Trauma helicopter personnel assisted. The helicopter landed along the N50 on the route to the hospital, after which the doctor boarded the ambulance.

The Espelerweg was closed for hours, until after midnight, due to the police investigation and the clean-up work. The road and the cycle path were littered with debris. It is still unclear exactly how the accident could have happened.
