Series of Stolen Saudi Royal Family Items, Diamonds to Money

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

The theft of Prince Faisal’s blue diamond has become a widespread concern because it triggers a rift in relations Saudi Arabia and Thailand. But apparently, there are a number of other Saudi royal goods that have been stolen.

These items include branded bags and cash worth IDR 5.4 billion. The following items belonging to a Saudi family member were reported stolen.

1. Blue diamond

One of the Thai workers, Kriangkrai Techmong, stole a number of diamonds, including a blue diamond, worth Rp.

After stealing, Techmong flew to his home country. He had sold the diamond before Thai police arrested him in 1990. The man was later sentenced to five years in prison.

During the investigation, Techmong admitted to committing a crime and decided to return all the stolen diamonds.

The incident sparked the theft of estranged relations between the two countries for more than 30 years.

2. Hermes bag, Chanel fleece scarf and jewelry

The Saudi princess has also lost a Hermes test, a Chanel fur scarf and a piece of jewelery worth 1.5 million euros, or around Rp24 billion, in Paris in 2020.

The robbery was only realized when the Saudi Princess returned to the apartment in Paris in the morning. The thieves broke into the apartment via the Georges V area near the Champs-Elysee.

The thieves took 30 Hermes bags worth €50,000, diamonds, a Cartier watch worth €8,000, and fur coats.

“Handprints were found on the ceiling,” the investigative officer said, as quoted RFI.

3. IDR 5.4 billion in cash

One of the Saudi princes, Abdul Aziz, is said to have lost up to US$375,000 or around Rp. 5.4 billion in France.

According to reports Sydney Morning HeraldThe incident began when Abdul Aziz visited Paris to ask architects to build a replica of the Spanish Alhambra palace near Riyadh. He was accompanied by 50 bodyguards.

He spent 45 days in Paris and stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel George V. On the way to Le Bourget airport, the group was confronted by eight armed men.

The robbers hijacked the vehicle carrying the Saudi driver, guards and officers. Meanwhile, Abdul Aziz was in another car.

They were still in the car when the robbers took about $375 thousand in cash in the trunk.

They are also called taking secret documents. However, the Saudi embassy denied these reports.

The group in the car was then immediately evacuated. Meanwhile, the robber’s car was found in the forest, along with two 500 euro bills, medicine and some documents in Arabic.
