Series of Shootings in Brooklyn Leaves Five Dead Overnight

NEW YORK — Nearly half a dozen people were killed in a series of shootings last night and overnight in Brooklyn, authorities announced.

All of the shootings occurred in neighborhoods such as Park Slope, Clinton Hill and Crown Heights. Police have not said whether they believe the gun violence may be related.

Gunshots broke out for the first time in Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights. Police were called to the scene shortly after 11 pm on Wednesday and found that a 37-year-old man had been shot in the neck. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. A person of interest is in custody, although he is the only individual detained in any of the shootings at this time.

Less than half an hour later, shortly before midnight, NYPD officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a man shot at Atlantic and Rockaway avenues in Brownsville. They found a 28-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. He was also pronounced dead at a hospital.

The officers then went to 2nd Street in Park Slope shortly after 1:00 a.m. Thursday. A 34-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man were found shot in the head. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was found near the man.

Another person was murdered in the county shortly before 3:00 a.m., this time in Clinton Hill. Police responding to a 9-1-1 call found a 35-year-old man shot in the head in Hall Street. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

None of the victims have been identified. Each of the investigations is ongoing.
