Senegal: death of Mame Less Camara, a “model for generations of journalists”

African Press Agency – The famous Senegalese journalist and political analyst died on Saturday April 29 in Dakar following a long illness.

An eminent figure in the Senegalese press, Mame Less Camara died on the night of Friday to Saturday at the Principal Hospital in Dakar, according to his relatives. Author of a brilliant career in Senegalese (Walfadjri, Envi FM, Océan FM) and foreign (BBC) media, this radio man has trained generations of journalists who are the pride of the continent.

« It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of Mame Less Camara, journalist, teacher-trainer. A great columnist and columnist, Mame Less has been a model for generations of journalists. I salute the memory of a lord of the pen and the verb, a good, honest and generous man. To his family and to the press, I offer my heartfelt condolences “Reacted the President of the Republic, Macky Sall, on his Facebook page.

Camara, who first studied philosophy and law at Cheikh Anta Diop University (Ucad) in Dakar before taking the competition for the Center for Studies in Information Science and Technology (Cesti) in the 1980s , has long distinguished himself in trade union struggles, in particular by leading the Syndicate of Information and Communication Professionals of Senegal (Synpics).

At the announcement of his disappearance, his former students and colleagues mourned on various platforms the loss of an affable man, telling a multitude of anecdotes about this distinguished journalist-trainer.

According to testimonies, he was unanimous for his high professional skills, his acute sense of ethics and his finesse in the analysis of Senegalese news, being regularly asked by the media to comment on political events.

Beyond his radio voice, Mame Less Camara was also an alert pen through which he produced a weekly column, in the mid-1990s, in the Senegalese daily Le Matin under the pseudonym “Abdou Sow”, articles that delighted the readers of this now defunct newspaper.

Also in 2007, candidates for the Senegalese baccalaureate had worked on behalf of the French test of the first group, in summary followed by discussion, on the inaugural speech of Mame Less Camara delivered at the opening of the scientific symposium of the Biennale des Arts and Letters in 1992.
