Senate sent a bill for unemployment insurance due to amendments made by the House | National

He Senate sent a mixed Commission the project that seeks to increase the payment and make the requirements for access to the unemployment insurance, after disagreeing with two amendments included by the Chamber of Deputies.

Although the bulk of the project was approved, there was two items that caused discrepancies.

The first of them is related to table proposed by the Government in order to increase replacement rate insurance up to 55% with respect to workers’ income.

So far, the benefits start at 75% the first month, and fall in a decreasing way to 35%. In the opposition they voted against this article to seek an increase over what the Executive proposes.

He Senator for National Renewal, José García Ruminot, he regretted the delay in the approval of this initiative, which, in his opinion, is a simple and direct benefit.

The second article that will be reviewed is related to domestic workers. In the Chamber, it was proposed to include this segment in the benefits of the Solidarity Unemployment Fund, once they exhaust the savings in their individual account.

However, this group has a different regime, and is not currently listed for the Unemployment Fund Administrator.

In this sense, the socialist senator Juan Pablo Letelier, who chairs the Labor commission, pointed out that the application of the norm is unfeasible.

Government promised project for private workers

Along the same lines, Minister of Labor, María José Zaldívar, He compromised the presentation of a project that includes the private home workers in the unemployment insurance, but he joined the criticism regarding the proposal by the Chamber.

On the other hand, the Senator of the Progressive Party, Alejandro Navarro, He expressed his distrust regarding the Executive’s commitment, considering that the discussion was raised from the beginning during the processing of the Employment Protection Law.

The mixed commission, made up of members of the Labor commission in both chambers, is expected to be able to settle the discrepancies no later than next week.
