In 2017, Gómez revealed that he underwent a kidney transplant in her last treatment for this disease, and that the actress France Raisa was his donor.

The pop singer, one of the most followed personalities on Instagram, then posted a photo where she is seen with Raisa, holding hands, in adjoining hospital beds. Another image showed a large scar on her abdomen.

Gomez gave details of her health when her fans wondered why the little publicity she has done to promote her music was due.

“I found out that I needed a kidney transplant because of my lupus and I was recovering. It was what I needed to regain my general health “the singer wrote to explain her absence.

Gomez thanked Raisa, best known for her roles on the ABC series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and the movie “Bring It On: All or Nothing.”

“He gave me a great gift and the sacrifice of donating his kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you sister”, Gomez wrote.

The 25-year-old former child star revealed in 2015 that she had been diagnosed with lupus, a chronic disease of the body’s immune system that attacks healthy tissue.

She secretly underwent chemotherapy for a time and interrupted a world tour, saying she needed to deal with the effects of lupus including anxiety, panic attacks and depression.

Gomez says on Instagram that the disease continues to be “very misunderstood” and encourages her fans to visit the Lupus Research Alliance website.

“I am well aware that my fans have realized that I have been staying a bit on the sidelines for part of the summer, and they have wondered why I was not promoting my new releases, of which I am extremely proud. I found out that I needed a kidney transplant because of my Lupus, and I have been on the mend. It was what I needed to do for my health, wrote the singer.
