Selections for Paris Olympics 2024 Announced on July 5 by French Handball Federation

This early Monday evening, the leaders of the French Handball Federation indicated that the selections for the Paris Olympics would be announced on July 5, 2024. As required by the Olympic regulations, the Federation will submit the lists to the CNOSF, which will have to validate on July 8.

Candidates for a new gold medal after those of Tokyo in 2021, Guillaume Gille, the men’s coach, and his women’s counterpart Olivier Krumbholz will each be able to have only 15 athletes, against 18 during other international competitions.

During this back-to-school press briefing, at the Maison du handball in Créteil (Val-de-Marne), the president of the FFHB Philippe Bana also announced that the Olympic torch relay would pass on July 21, 2024 through the MDH, headquarters of the instance. For the duration of the Games (July 26-August 11), the site will host a huge fan zone that can accommodate 5,000 people. A beach handball tournament will be played there with France, Brazil, the United States and Qatar.

Les Bleues in Villeneuve-d’Ascq on October 11, Les Bleus in Toulouse on November 4

On the road to Paris 2024, the season will be marked by two major meetings: the Women’s World Cup in Norway, Sweden and Denmark (November 30 – December 17) and the Men’s Euro in Germany (January 10 to 28). At the 2021 World Cup, the Blues were silver medalists while the boys finished 4th in the last Euro in January 2022.

The French will begin their season with two qualifying matches for Euro 2024, on October 11 against Italy in Villeneuve-d’Ascq and on October 14 in Latvia. Luka Karabatic’s teammates will meet again for a friendly match against Romania in Toulouse on November 4. If the staffs have already worked on the Olympic preparation program, they are dependent, for the friendly matches, on the availability of the other nations which have yet to win their ticket for Paris 2024.
