1. Discovering the Mangini villa in Saint-Pierre-La-Palud

Building erected in the 19th century by the Lyon architect Gaspard André but whose style is reminiscent of that of 16th century Tuscany, the Mangini villa, classified as a Historic Monument, is to this day used as an administrative building by the Enedis training center.

In Saint-Pierre-la-Palud (45 minutes from Lyon), Villa Mangini is an emblematic example of bourgeois residences built in the Lyon region in the second half of the 19th century by large industrialists. Félix Mangini, an entrepreneur active in the construction of the first railways and a philanthropist, entrusted its decoration to recognized artists of the time.

After two years of very important restoration of the premises, the villa opens for the first time to the public on the occasion of Heritage Days. A projected historical tour also informs the visitor about the memory of the place.

Free visits in groups of 15 people max. Saturday September 16 and Sunday September 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 34 chemin de la Pérollière 69210 Saint-Pierre-La-Palud

2. The future new life of the Château de Villars in the Loire

Located in the heart of the Pilat natural park, the Château de Villars opens its doors again after 15 years of closure to the public.

Built on the foundations of a manor in the 15th century, enlarged in the 18th century, this castle underwent several periods of construction and was transformed into a family home. Today, in a very poor state of conservation, the castle must be saved.

Major work will begin in a few months to preserve the monument and the painted decorations it houses. At the same time in the annexes, the owner has a project for accommodation, creation of a restaurant….

The castle has just been elected a regional monument of the Loire by the Mission Berne as part of the heritage lottery.

5. A castle park, photos and vintage cars in Haute-Loire

20 minutes from Puy-en-Velay and 1.5 hours from Saint-Étienne, Thiolent Castle, fortified in 1450 to serve as a shelter during the 100 Years’ War, is a magnificent private place, steeped in history.

Located in Vergezac, at an altitude of 1000m, the castle is known for being surrounded by a large 5-hectare park that the public is invited to discover during Heritage Days. Often open to visitors on this occasion, the entire Thiolent park overlooks the village of Vergezac and offers a panoramic view to visitors: to the west on the Devès chain and to the north on the Allègre plateau.

A discovery tour will allow you to discover the park, the paths lined with 300-year-old trees (oaks, beeches, lime trees, etc.) and the terraces will be decorated with old cars and motorcycles. The visit will end in the common areas with the photo exhibition. At different places in the park, explanations will be provided by the owners, collectors and the photographer.
