He was one of the trainers of the football most distinguished Frenchmen, one of those who have shaped entire generations of footballers. Originally from Cantal, but settled in Seine-et-Marne for more than 50 years, in Chartrettes, Jean-Pierre Morlans died last Friday at the age of 77.

“I remember when he came from the South West in Seine et Marne, recalls Jean-Pierre Dlachasse, then in charge of the prefectural club. I gave him the Cadets 3 at the time. That’s how he started in football. After that, it was very fast for him, the District, the League, and the Federation… ”

Came to the DTN in 1982, after having directed for a year the National Football Institute (INF) in Vichy -l’ancien Clairefontaine-, Jean-Pierre Morlans was a member until 2008, the date of his retirement.

During these twenty-six years, he worked successively, as an assistant, alongside Michel Hidalgo (1982-1986), Henri Michel (1986-1988), Gérard Houllier (1988-1998) and Aimé Jacquet (1998-2006). After the latter’s departure in December 2006, he was appointed acting DTN from January to September 2007.

He had also led numerous national youth selections, including the French cadet team which then had two Melunais in its ranks, Pierre Papeau and Eric Philippe. In 1996, he had hoisted the French cadet team for the first time in the final of the European championship in his category (lost 1-0 against Portugal).

“Always listening to people”

After leaving the FFF, he became DTN at the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. “I’m sad, it’s a part of life that goes away, testifies Jean-Paul Grandière, former trainer of the great Fontainebleau, who worked alongside Jean-Pierre Morlans from his beginnings in the Regional Technical Department. We quickly became close, so did our families. He needed support for his work, I was his assistant as CTD, when we set up, with Paul Raban, District 77 South. We developed the training courses for executives, and as there was not yet a place like Clairefontaine, it was at the EIS – which became the CNDS – that we did these trainings. We worked hand in hand for a long time. He also helped me a lot to set up in Fontainebleau. It was the beginning of the great epic of the club. He also helped Melun a lot. He is one of the great people who played football in Seine-et-Marne … “” He was someone who was competent, upright, honest and hardworking, remembers Philippe Tettamanti, general manager of Mée. He has always listened to people and young people in particular, so that everyone can get the best of themselves. I first met him in Melun, where he was my cadet coach. Then he played a season at Le Mée, before leaving for the National Technical Directorate. He was the one who always insisted that I graduate. The last one I had, the DEF, I would never have passed without him… ”

Jean-Pierre Morlans has always been a friend within AEF 77 (Amicale des educateurs de football), always playing the game, as Daniel Louis, president of AEF 77 remembers. the actions that we carried out in the friendly. In 2006, with his friend Aimé Jacquet, they were present in Melun at the university for a technical conference. It was always a great pleasure to be able to interact with him. “
