Security guarantees – Borrell explained the EU’s collective response

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, explained why the EU countries refused to separately respond to a letter from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regarding the so-called “security guarantees.” Borrell sent a collective EU response to Russia.

As Borrell explained, all EU countries have a common opinion about the so-called “guarantees” proposed by Russia. This idea was expressed in a joint letter.

“Lavrov sent a letter to all of us, and we responded collectively with one letter, which I signed. He did not like it at all, because they wanted to receive letters from each country. But we saved them time to read 27 identical letters,” the diplomat explained.

At the same time, Borrell noted that he was ready to continue negotiations with Russia.
