Donald Trump toured the facilities of a Ford plant in Michigan on Thursday, and, despite the company’s policies that require the mandatory use of masks, the president was not wearing a set when he appeared before the media that followed his visit.
–
Trump claimed he had worn a mask “in the back area,” but not while it was visible to journalists who traveled to Michigan with him. “I had one before,” Trump told reporters as he showed a mask on his hands and said, “I think I look better with a mask on.”
–
When asked why he removed the mask, the president argued that “it was not necessary” for most of the tour because he is regularly tested for coronavirus.

The president of the Ford company, who did wear a mask and accompanied the president, responded to a reporter who asked him if he could confirm that the mask was not necessary in that area. He replied “it depends on him.”

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel wrote an open letter to Trump on Wednesday, saying the president had “not only a legal responsibility, but also a social and moral responsibility” to wear a mask during his tour.
