Secretary General of MENAPLN Opens National Education Statistics Days 2023 in Ouagadougou

The Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages ​​(MENAPLN), Ibrahima Sanou, opened, this Friday, December 29, 2023, in Ouagadougou, the work of the Statistics Days of the Education and Literacy (JSENA). This meeting, which will bring together several dozen education stakeholders and partners in basic and secondary education over two days, aims to improve the quality of statistical data provided to the department.

The National Education Statistics Days (JSENA) 2023 began this Friday, December 29, in the Burkinabe capital. They are held around the theme: “Implementation of the action plan for stabilization and development: the role of school statistics in economic transformation and sustainable development in Burkina”.

“Statistics constitute an instrument for steering and managing the education system. Without statistics, we cannot do anything, we cannot plan. So, good data makes it possible to do better planning for the entire education system,” said the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages ​​(MENAPLN), Ibrahima Sanou. , to justify the importance of JSENA.

For the 2022-2023 session, the statistics allowed the department “to have a comprehensive idea” of all educational structures at preschool, post-primary and secondary levels, among others, continued Mr. Sanou.

He added that “these statistics also allowed (them) to set up the unique student identification file which will allow (them) to have an idea of ​​all (the) students and this will facilitate their registrations. and the production of school identity cards”.

“The challenge we faced through these JSENAs was to have perfect control over the number of internally displaced students. And as you know, it is very difficult today to have access to certain areas. And we have many closed educational structures and many students who have dropped out of school,” said Mr. Sanou. He stressed that “the recommendations that will be made will allow (them) to carry out real profiling to be able to ensure the educational continuity of these children”.

The Director General of Sectoral Studies and Statistics (DGESS) of MENAPLN, Olivier Bagré, indicated that these JSENAs will allow participants from all regions of the country to present statistical productions, discuss the difficulties encountered and seek solutions to better productions. In terms of statistics for the current year 2022-2023, they “have evolved, some positively and others negatively,” said Mr. Bagré.

In terms of numbers, the DGESS of the Ministry of National Education noted that “all educational structures have educated around 4,100,000 students at all levels”. “If you want by level, we have around 140,000 at the preschool level, a little over 2 million at the primary level and more than a million at the post-primary and secondary level,” said Mr. Bagré.
