The National Confederation of Municipal Health Officials (Confusam) confirmed that a second doctor of primary care following a contagion of coronavirus.
The victim corresponds to Cristhian Balladares Holguín, a Family doctor who worked 19 years ago in the primary care of Quinta Normal, in the Metropolitan region. The official worked in Cesfam Garín and Lo Franco.
According to the organization, Balladares had arrived more than 25 years ago from Ecuador to practice as a doctor. In addition, he studied the specialty of Family Medicine at the University of Chile and worked in the communes of Lo Prado, Conchalí and Quinta Normal.
From Confusam they assured that “his family, friends and colleagues will not forget his kindness, dedication and affection for all the people he attended.”
First symptoms
In mid-May, the doctor told his close friends that he felt ill, symptoms that made him think of a contagion of coronavirus.
However, his discomfort was exacerbating until he determined his hospitalization at the Santa María Clinic on Wednesday the 20th of that month. From that date, Balladares faced this disease until today, when his death was confirmed.
Cristina Farr, leader of Confusam Centro Occidente, assured that “he was an excellent doctor, very dedicated to his patients and also a great companion. For his age, fighting spirit and perseverance always we thought I was going to get over it, but despite the numerous efforts that were made from the therapeutic to save his life, this disease was devastating for him ”.
Likewise, the president of the Confusam, Gabriela Flores, mentioned that “the true tragedy that the thousands of primary care officials in the country are experiencing is being unveiled, fighting a disease that does not seem to yield in reality “.
Balladares corresponds to the second doctor and the 11th municipal health worker who dies from this disease, according to what was announced from the Confusam.
