Second corona infection in Leersum | The Cape-Stichtse Courant

LEARNING SUMMARY A second person in Leersum has been infected with the corona virus. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the municipality of Utrechtste Heuvelrug report this. This second person has contracted an infection through a person who has already been diagnosed with an infection. The patient stays in home insulation. The editors try to find out whether this infection can be associated with the previous infection in Leersum.

At present, 264 people in the Netherlands are infected with the new virus, which has been manifesting in our country since Thursday 27 February. In recent days, residents of, among others, the municipalities of Renkum, Arnhem, Wijk bij Duurstede, Soest and Zeewolde have also been tested positive for the corona virus.

People with the new coronavirus have a fever and respiratory complaints. Think of coughing or shortness of breath. The disease can be transmitted from person to person. It is currently assumed that one sick person can infect two others on average. The sicker a person is, the more he spreads the virus.

People who have a fever and airway complaints of more than 38 degrees and who have recently had contact with a patient with the corona virus or who have been in a country where there is a lot of infection in the past two weeks are advised to contact the doctor by telephone. You are not supposed to go to the doctor because of the risk of infection.

High-risk countries currently include China, Singapore, South Korea, Iran and northern Italy. If you fall into the risk group, but do not yet have a fever, stay at home and avoid contact with others as much as possible. As soon as a cold or an elevation turns into a fever, call the doctor again.

To prevent the virus from spreading further, it is advisable for everyone to wash their hands regularly and sneeze or cough in the elbow. In addition, it is recommended to use paper handkerchiefs and throw them away after use. Experts also indicate that it is wise not to shake hands and to keep some distance from others.
