“An Olympic Games in July this year is neither feasible nor desirable,” said Sebastian Coe in a letter to his counterpart to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach.
He asked that the Games be moved from their original dates (July 24-August 6), reports the Reuters news agency. The boss of World Athletics added in her letter that the heads of the continental athletics federations unanimously shared this point of view.
The announcement comes hours after the IOC said it could take up to four weeks to decide whether to postpone the Tokyo Olympics.
