Sea search for missing teen at Monster beach | NOW

Off the coast of Monster, southwest of The Hague, a search started on Friday evening for a missing teenager who has been in trouble due to the strong sea currents

Around 7.50 pm a group of three swimmers got into trouble, says a spokesperson for the Haaglanden Safety Region. Beachgoers were able to save two out of three people, but saw a third person go down.

After that, the rescue brigade, the coastguard, the fire brigade and the police started a large-scale search with rescue boats and helicopters.

Dozens of beach guests volunteered by forming a long ribbon to search a large section along the beach.

The three swam a bit into the sea and were then carried away by the strong southern current. They ran into problems when they wanted to swim back.

The search will continue in the water until half an hour after sunset, after which the rescue brigade will continue to search in boats on the water and with cars from the shore.

Rescue Brigade The Netherlands warned Friday about the strong current along the coast.
