Scientists have found out why children are easier to tolerate coronavirus

Researchers at the Massachusetts Hospital (USA) found that children are better protected from coronavirus and more easily tolerate the disease due to the properties of their mucous membranes. This was told by one of the study participants, pediatrician Lael Jonker, on Tuesday, September 21, reports CNN.

He noted that usually the innate immune system of children suppresses the infection at an early stage, which does not allow the virus to gain a foothold and multiply unhindered.

“Children have a particularly strong immunity to the mucous membrane that covers the nose, throat and other parts of the body that meet germs,” Jonker said.

According to him, the immune cells on the mucosa act “like multi-layered stone walls.”

Also, according to him, in children, the airways are filled with cells that recognize COVID-19.

“This is very important because it allows children to immediately activate their innate immune system, releasing interferons, which help stop the virus before it can take hold,” the doctor said.

Also, he listed the symptoms that are observed in children when they contract an infection. So, most often they have: fever, dry cough, fatigue, pain in muscles and joints, diarrhea, sore throat, headache, skin rashes, loss of smell and taste, chest pain, loss of mobility.

Earlier it was reported that the Lviv authorities decided to allow teachers who were not vaccinated against coronavirus continue working if there is a negative PCR test.
