Scientists Discover True Cause of Dinosaur Extinction: Deccan Traps Volcano Emissions

Scientists are closer to solving the possible cause of the extinction of dinosaurs about 66 million years ago.

Scientists have debunked the myth that dinosaurs destroyed an asteroid.

About it writes Daily Mail.

In the study, scientists from Darmouth University developed a simulation that used real geological data to analyze more than 300,000 possible scenarios. The study authors note that the system has been used to explain the fossil record of the million years before and after the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Modeling results suggest that climate change and toxic gases from hundreds of years of Deccan Trap emissions caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Experts suggest that the Indian megavolcano “Deccan Traps” pumped 10.4 trillion tons of carbon dioxide and 9.3 trillion tons of sulfur dioxide into our planet’s atmosphere, all over almost a million years of eruptions.

So, scientists believe that the true cause of the extinction of dinosaurs on Earth was not an asteroid, as previously thought, but the Indian megaulcan “Deccan Traps”. The study authors note that they used geological and climate data collected from three deep-sea core samples in their computer model. At the same time, each of them contained fossils dating from 67 to 65 million years ago.

Earlier it became known that researchers discovered a new impact crater. It was most likely formed 66 million years ago, like the famous Chicxulub crater in Mexico after the impact of an asteroid, which is believed to have destroyed almost all dinosaurs. A new study could change what we know about how dinosaurs went extinct, as they may have been wiped out by two or more asteroids.
