A drone exploring the sky above Venus? An electric aircraft that is as silent as possible? And a mini robot from the 3D printer that could swim in the seas of other celestial bodies?
Such ideas are “currently still science fiction, but could one day become reality,” said the US space agency Nasa on Friday (local time). The three proposals belong to a total of 17 selected ideas that NASA is supporting with a total of 5.1 million dollars (about 4.5 million euros).
“We still have challenging goals and human and robotic explorations ahead of us, and innovative ideas and forward-thinking are helping us reach new milestones,” said Pam Melroy, deputy NASA chief. The projects are all still in the very early stages of development and are not initially classified as official NASA missions.
