Schwaab gives up salary and leaves PSV: ‘This generous gesture typifies Daniel’

Daniel Schwaab has left PSV immediately. The German routine has received permission from the Eindhoven club to join his family.

It already became clear earlier that PSV would not renew Schwaab’s expiring contract. The 31-year-old defender accepts a discount on his last two monthly salaries to support the club in the corona crisis. “This generous gesture typifies Daniel as a person. We are going to miss him,” says technical manager John de Jong on the club site.

Schwaab transferred from VfB Stuttgart in 2016. He leaves PSV after more than a hundred duels with a Johan Cruijff Scale (2016) and a league title (2018). “I look back on the past four seasons with a good feeling,” he says. “Playing for the prizes means that you experience highs and lows. My time at PSV is no exception. Nevertheless, the positive thoughts prevail. I am happy that I took this step in 2016.”

Schaab takes it for granted that he proposed PSV to adjust his last two monthly salaries. “PSV gives me the space to return to my family. In recent months I have also been given that opportunity. In my view it makes sense to hand in part of the salary. After all, I am no longer active for PSV . “

“I am proud that we have also reached an agreement with the whole group on a temporary salary discount. We are living in a difficult time, but it is good that everyone realizes that we can only solve the financial consequences together”, Schwaab concludes, of whom it is not yet known where he continues his career.
