Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) – According to Hesse’s Minister of Education, Alexander Lorz (CDU), the starting shot could be given by the end of this year for the planned acquisition of work laptops for all teachers. The necessary administrative agreement is currently being worked on, he told the dpa in Wiesbaden. It will probably only be a matter of weeks until “everything is wrapped up”. In the course of the coming year, the devices could then be procured and distributed.

“Even if we push the pace here, the award process has to run smoothly,” said Lorz. The service laptops for the teachers are about 500 million euros from the federal government across Germany – plus additional money from the state. “We are talking about 60,000 end devices for teachers in Hessen alone,” said the minister. “That’s quite a volume.” In addition, the country is currently buying around 120,000 laptops for schoolchildren, and more than half have already been ordered, said Lorz. These devices are financed by the state.
