Schools – Schwerin – compulsory tests at schools: But not for final exams – education

Schwerin (dpa / mv) – students and teachers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have to test themselves for the corona virus twice a week by next Wednesday at the latest – however, this obligation does not apply to the final exams that have already started. Only those who can show a negative test twice a week can then take part in face-to-face lessons and emergency care, as the Ministry of Education announced on Friday in Schwerin. The obligation to test also applies to legal guardians who enter the school building.

“Failure to comply with the test requirement means deciding against classroom teaching in the school. The pupils concerned are given tasks to work on independently. However, they are not entitled to distance teaching,” said the Ministry’s statement. The possibility of self-testing has been offered since mid-March, which around 47 percent of the students and employees have used. At least one test offer must have been submitted before the final exams.

According to the ministry, all schools have been provided with sufficient corona self-tests in the past few weeks. The obligation to test is included in the recently passed Federal Infection Protection Act, which is why the state has to implement this. So far there has been no compulsory test in schools in the northeast. Schools in MV have been closed since this week, but emergency care is guaranteed for children in grades one to six. In addition, final exams take place in the schools, the Abitur exams began on Friday.

“As soon as the nationwide incidence is below 100 on seven consecutive days, the schools will switch back to face-to-face teaching with a step-by-step plan,” announced Education Minister Bettina Martin (SPD). Currently this number is 141.2 nationwide.
