Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) – Since the beginning of the school year in mid-August, around 430 students in Saarland have tested positive for the corona virus. In addition, corona infections have been registered in 45 teachers (as of November 16), said the Saarland Ministry of Education in Saarbrücken. So far, there have been around 12,300 quarantine orders for students and around 1,300 for teachers during this period.
At the beginning of the week, around 2,700 students and 240 teachers were quarantined at 110 schools. No school was closed. Health Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot (SPD) said: “The hygiene and infection protection rules make our schools pretty safe places in the pandemic. Schools are not corona hotspots, children and young people are not super spreaders.”
In Saarland, since November 9th, it has been mandatory to wear a mask in class for pupils from the 5th grade. All in all, there are around 120,000 students, around 9,400 teachers and 316 schools across the Saarland.
