Schools – Düsseldorf – Corona protection: Wüst advertises school bus program to municipalities – education

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) – More school buses so that the children and young people are better distributed: This corona protection measure is supporting the state with more than 33 million euros. Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) has now advertised the program again in a letter to the districts and municipalities.

“I can assure you once again for your ongoing planning to prepare your return to face-to-face teaching that the state government will continue to finance 100% of the rectification of school traffic,” says the letter that is available to the German Press Agency. The offer applies to both “the rental of additional bus capacities” and additional trips to buses that are already in use.

The minister also spoke out in favor of “working with schools and transport companies to equalize school times so that overcrowded buses are excluded from school traffic.” As a ministry spokesman emphasized, Wüst is not about staggering the start of lessons at a school – but at different institutions. One school could start earlier in the morning than another.

According to its own statements, the state government has provided 33.5 million euros since the start of the funding program in August. “Since then, 165 municipalities and 16 providers of replacement schools have submitted applications for around 20 million euros for additional school trips,” said the Ministry of Transport.
