School Bus Aide Killed in Vehicle Crash Involving NY State Police – NBC New York

NEW YORK — A bus attendant has died after a New York State Police vehicle and a school bus were involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The fatal incident occurred shortly after 3 pm in the Dutchess County town of Lagrange, New York State Police said. The state police vehicle and an Arlington School District bus collided on Route 55 and South Cross Road.

After the accident, paramedics from the Lagrange Fire Department pronounced the bus attendant dead at the scene. The school bus driver and state trooper were taken to nearby hospitals, as were two adult students who were on board the bus at the time of the crash. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening, according to police.

The parents of the students were notified of the accident.

State police said Wednesday they couldn’t comment further on the case because the attorney general’s investigation is ongoing.

The Arlington School District confirmed the loss of the bus attendant in a statement Tuesday night, saying, “It is with deep sadness that I inform you that an Arlington bus monitor was killed in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of the monitor tonight. I know you all join me in sending our deepest condolences. As a community, we will continue to support the family for days to come.”

“Our team of Arlington psychologists, social workers, and counselors are available to any student or staff member who needs support right now. The Dutchess County Helpline is available 24/7 by call. or text 845-485-9700,” the statement continued.
