Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – LG Electronics decided to withdraw from the smartphone market due to intense competition. In fact, LG is one of the pioneers who brought smart phones to the world and has seven innovations that are still in use today.
Here are seven smartphone innovations left by LG Electronics, as reported by ZDnet:
1. Capacitive touch screen display (LG Prada- 2006)
People thought it was Apple who brought touch screen technology to smartphone displays. However, it turned out that LG beat Apple with the LG Prada which was launched in 2006.
2. Flexible Oled Screen (LG G Flex – 2014)
LG released the G Flex with a curved flexible OLED display. The length is curved so that it fits comfortably along your face when you pick it up for a phone call. It’s a rather large phablet with a six-inch screen, which is huge for this period. Its tough competitors at the time included the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
3. Modular smartphone (LG G5 – 2016)
The idea of a modular smartphone where you simply remove various accessories to increase functionality sounded good at first when LG launched the LG G5. Unfortunately, the G5 didn’t hit the market.
4. Ultra-wide camera (LG G5 – 2016)
The LG G5 provides an ultra-wide rear camera on the back. Ultra-wide cameras are now the default on mid and upper level smartphones that have more than one rear camera. LG is setting this standard and this innovation is probably the longest that lasted after LG left the smartphone business.
LG also has an ultra-wide front-facing camera on the LG V10. This innovation is the first time consumers can use two cameras on the front of a smartphone.
5.Quad DAC (LG V20 – 2016)
This series is focused on content creators and audiophiles ith quad-DAC integrated for high-quality audio playback. Innovation may not be liked by everyone, but audiophiles love the sound the LG V20 makes.
6.Dual Screen Android Smartphone (LG G8X – 2019)
LG offers a simple solution with its LG Dual Screen cover which offers a large duplicate display at a much more affordable price. This is the first time launching the LG G8X with this option.
The advantage of this solution is that you can use the dual screen when needed or take the phone out and use it as a standard phone with ease.
7.Dual swivel screen (LG Wing- 2020)
The LG Wing is equipped with a unique swivel T screen, unfortunately its use is impractical for this design other than for video recording. The lower small screen is not very useful so the phone has limited appeal.
