Satoshi: A Heartwarming Drama of Resilience and Unconditional Love In Theaters Today

In theaters today, the drama Satoshi tells the shocking fate of Satoshi Fukushima, blind at just 9 years old, before losing his hearing at 18. A story of resilience and unconditional love that will touch your heart!

If many know the remarkable life story of the blind, deaf and mute writer Helen Keller, today another equally poignant and inspiring true story is offered to spectators on the big screen, that of Satoshi Fukushima!

In his feature film soberly titled Satoshi, in cinemas from February 28, Jumpei Matsumoto recounts the journey, both moving and filled with resilience, of the man who will become the first blind and deaf university professor in the world. It was after meeting the latter during a screening of his previous film Perfect Revolution that the Japanese director decided to dedicate his next project to him.

An incredible life lesson

With great emotion, the drama looks back on the significant events in the life of Satoshi (Taketo Tanaka), from losing the vision in his right eye at just 3 years old to becoming blind at 9 years old, before losing the audition at 18. Carried by the love and unfailing support of his mother Reiko (Koyuki), the young man will face adversity with a wisdom and perseverance that commands admiration.

Because it is not only the story of Satoshi that this film tells, but also that of his mother whose life was also completely turned upside down by her son’s disability. Without ever giving up, she will overcome her despair and her feeling of helplessness to help him and allow him to flourish despite the obstacles.

Wayna Pitch

“I was really moved by how they continue to move forward and never give up despite all the challenges that come their way. This is how the desire to make a film about the life of this mother and her son was born in me, says Jumpei Matsumoto. I am confident that Satoshi’s story will touch the hearts of many people.”

In France, the film is also distributed by the company Wayna Pitch, created in 2012 by Jonathan Musset after the production of his first film Midnight Globe, which paid homage to Helen Keller. With the casting of Satoshi, often cited as the male version of the American writer, a new extraordinary destiny is highlighted here!
