Sarcelles: the four men arrested after the mortar fire on the police station released

The four men arrested on Thursday evening, February 25 and the next morning, following fireworks mortar fire at the Sarcelles police station on Thursday at the end of the day, were released.

The two adults, aged 19 and 33, were left free with the continuation of the preliminary investigation, and transmission of the proceedings to the public prosecutor for assessment. Concerning the two 17-year-old minors, they were left free because the offense was insufficiently characterized.

Four days after the events, the course of this agitated evening is still very vague. It seemed that a dozen young people threw mortars around 7:30 p.m., part of which fell on the police station without it being certain that it had been targeted directly.

A window in the police station was cracked but there were no injuries. According to the mayor (PS) Patrick Haddad, these shots could have mixed with the firecrackers of the Jewish holiday of Purim which was held at the same time, hence some confusion.

A rally aborted on Saturday to demand the release of Mara Kanté

When the CRS who were securing the synagogues returned to the scene, they found around thirty young people in the Gide-Saint-Saëns district, located behind the police station, where the arrests took place.

The activist Mara Kanté, acquitted at the assizes for his participation in the riots of 2007 in Villiers-le-Bel, had been arrested for “contempt and rebellion” when he had left after the curfew. He allegedly ran when he saw the police to escape control. He had already been the subject of a check at the bottom of his home which had degenerated at the start of the 2020 school year.

Use of photos and videos

The announcement of a rally on Saturday at 2 p.m. in front of the police station to demand his release circulated on social networks but he was finally released just before, after two nights spent in police custody.

Information is also circulating in the town concerning the strip at Place Jean-Baptiste-Charcot, located on the other side of the police station. According to François Pupponi, the deputy (MoDem) of the 8th district, the use of photos and videos should lead to new arrests to come.
