Sarah Michelle Gellar thought ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ set was a terrible place to work: ‘All the women were pitted against each other’ | Celebrity

CelebritySarah Michelle Gellar (45) spoke in a new interview about what went on behind the scenes of the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. The conversation comes a year after Sarah’s colleague Charisma Carpenter (52) lashed out at Joss Whedon, the creator of the popular series.

The American actress spoke, among other things, about the “unfriendly” behavior behind the scenes. Gellar also says that the women who starred in the series were “pitted against each other.” “It was ultimately in my head that it was like this everywhere. And that if women stood up for each other or if we became friends, we became too powerful and had to be oppressed.”

Eventually, however, Sarah Michelle Gellar learned that things could be done differently. Gradually, the actresses managed to make a name for themselves in the world of cinema and television. “In the meantime, I’ve had the opportunity to work with not only more women, but more men who are supportive of women.” She continues, “Now I realize how easy it can be.”

Power abuse

In the past, the ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ actress also spoke about Joss Whedon, the creator of the series. Lei gellar said she’s proud to have been her on the series for many years, but she doesn’t like being tied to Whedon. “I stand with everyone who has experienced some form of abuse in the past and am proud of them for speaking up.”

The actress’ statement came at the time after a message from her former colleague Charisma Carpenter. Carpenter accused the creator of the series of “abuse of power” on social media about her. She would also call her “fat” when she was pregnant. “Joss Whedon has abused his power on numerous occasions,” Charisma said. “Even though he found his misbehavior amusing, it only served to increase my fear of failure, disempower me, and alienate me from my peers.” She continues: “The incidents in question caused a chronic physical condition that still haunts me.” Whedon himself continues to vehemently deny the allegations against him.
