Santiago continues to lose green areas

The construction of towers, residential and companies mitigate the green system of Santiago. Dozens of trees have been mutilated in recent days in different parts of the city for these purposes.

Logging occurs before the indifferent gaze of the authorities and in some cases with their authorization.

On Salvador Estrella Sadhalá Avenue, near the Los Jardines Metropolitanos sector, almost all the trees on the sidewalk were cut down without explaining the reason for the clearing. The entire front of the Nuestra Señora de Las Mercedes Women’s Polytechnic was cut down.

The same happened in the vicinity of the exclusive La Trinitaria sector, where several apartment towers were built.

Another deforested area is a plot located in the vicinity of the elevated of Salvador Estrella Sadhalá Avenue.

The environmental intervention was carried out with the authorization of the municipal authorities, as well as the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, with the commitment that the cut trees be transplanted into other areas. Among the places where these plants will be taken is the Santiago campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católico Madre y Maestra (Pucmm).

In the place, a corporate building will be built for the northern region of the Popular Association of Savings and Loans (APAP). So far it is unknown when the work will begin.

From the Ecological Society of Cibao (Soeci) they said they hope that the financial entity will comply with the commitment assumed to receive authorization to cut down the plants.
