Santiago attributes the infections at the Verge de L´ Esperança residence to “professional malpractice” | Radio Mallorca | Hour 14 Balearic Islands

Bad professional practice and inappropriate use of the mask at the Verge de l´Esperança residence in Palma. For this reason, according to the Minister of Social Affairs, Fina Santiago, there are as of today, in this center, 22 positive cases of COVID 19. This has been said in the SER, in an interview on Hoy por Hoy Mallorca. Autonomous communities and the central executive have agreed to review the measures to reduce precisely the impact of the coronavirus on nursing homes every 15 days.

The councilor defends that important measures have already been applied in the Balearic Islands for months, such as the reduction and control of visits and outings and isolation protocols.

In Palma, in particular, the situation of the Verge de l´Esperança residence is of concern. A total of 22 positive cases for COVID 19 have been counted in the last hours. There are 22 affected users, and according to the minister Santiago it is due to a “professional malpractice”. “There has been no proper use of the mask,” he said.

The social situation derived from the virus worries. The councilor insists that it is “essential” to get more financial resources to face the pandemic. Remember that the 300 million euros that the Government granted to the communities have been exhausted, the Balearic Islands received slightly more than one hundred million, but now, with no money for this exclusive item aimed at social services, “a new one is needed,” he said .

The councilor, on the other hand, recognizes that the minimum vital income is essential for many families but points out, “it is not working in an agile way. The benefit is “much needed, but must be collected quickly.”

Nothing optimistic is shown in the face of autumn and winter. The situation will worsen, he says, due to the bad tourist season, which has left many families without the ability to save. To date, more than 8 thousand families in the Islands receive guaranteed social income. 15 thousand beneficiaries in total. And some 7,000 families have received the extraordinary social income, a benefit linked to the pandemic.

The councilor insists that now it is essential to achieve economic measures such as lengthening the Erte, or leaving the communities that can get into debt, among others.

In another vein, this weekend three minors escaped from the Es Pinaret center after attacking the security guards and an educator. The children still have not been located, as confirmed by the councilor. The search continues.
