The Sports area of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, directed by Alicia Cebrián, will open next Monday, June 7, the registration period for the summer swimming courses, which will take place during the months of July and August at the Acidalio Lorenzo pool. The initiative offers about 800 places for minors between the ages of 4 and 13.
224 places are offered for children aged between 4 years, including all those born during the year 2017, and 5 years of age. The courses for that age group will last 30 minutes and will be taught, from Monday to Friday in the mornings, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and in the afternoon shift, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. 00 hours.
490 places have been reserved for the group between 6 and 13 years of age. In this case, the courses will last 45 minutes and the hours offered are, from Monday to Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Councilor for Sports, Alicia Cebrián, points out that “being able to offer swimming in the municipality in these summer months was one of our great objectives because swimming is a fundamental sport that all the children of Santa Cruz must learn,” adding that “Being able to function calmly in the water, for us Santa Cruceros who live by the sea, has to be a compulsory subject of learning. For this reason, our commitment to make this activity go forward this summer. Last year it was not possible to bid due to the restrictions that existed as a result of the pandemic ”.
Cebrián also states that “these courses are divided by age groups with long hours, both in the morning and in the afternoon, in order to try to reconcile work and family life, so necessary for many families during the period of summer school holidays ”.
The registration fees, set according to what is established in the Public Price Regulatory Ordinance, will be 28 euros for one month and 54 euros in the event that the minor is there during July and August. There are discounts for general large families (21 euros for one month and 40.5 euros for two months) and for special large families (7 euros for one month and 13.5 euros for two months). For reception centers, the fee is 10 euros for one month and 18 for the two months. In the case that they are children of vulnerable families, who are verified by the IMAS (Municipal Institute of Social Attention) and have an open social file, they will have a free place.
