“We just started with the three of us and now there are ten ears listening before it comes online,” said the 36-year-old entrepreneur and columnist. “There is a bit more filter on it. Of course we have become a bit wise through damage and shame.”
According to Schimmelpenninck, who records the podcast together with his childhood friend Jaap Reesema, the extra control should primarily ensure that he no longer “unnecessarily offends” anyone. In recent months, Schimmelpenninck has been discredited, because he made statements about princess Alexia and actress Yolanthe Cabau, among others.
According to Schimmelpenninck, the fact that he is occasionally caught on these controversial statements could be because the Self-podcast is recorded in a “friendly atmosphere”. “You actually completely forget that other people are listening.”
In addition, he thinks that the media will look at the content of podcasts in a different way in the near future. “That is a bit part of the initial phase of this medium. Some people think that what you say in a podcast is the same as a radio interview and then write it down.”
Schimmelpenninck previously indicated that the riots surrounding the statements in the relevant podcast have led to more listeners. The Self-podcast was also named best podcast of the year last week during the Online Radio Awards in Sound and Vision in Hilversum.
