San Salvador de Jujuy sues Uber for starting to operate in the province

Despite having opposed the landing of Uber in the province, the taxi drivers union together with the Municipality of San Salvador de Jujuy, the transport company began to operate, claiming that they do not need authorization.

As a result of this situation, the capital city municipality filed a lawsuit to protect the transport regulation.

This was announced by the Mayor of San Salvador de Jujuy, Raúl Jorge, referring to the untimely presence without any ordinance that endorses Uber in the city, since it is not regulated.

Therefore, it would go against municipal authority by being responsible for public transport.

According to Jorge, the lawsuit does not tend to go against a service and the technology to achieve that service, but rather has to do with the constitutional decision and the Organic Charter that stipulates that it is the Municipality that regulates public transport in the city.

“We want to avoid very serious problems that happened in other provinces, that is why we strongly express that we are against this apparition that wants to set aside all current ordinances.”

Also, the mayor reported that the lawsuit is motivated to “request the intervention of Justice and just protect the rights that the municipality has, as well as create a regulatory framework.”

Finally, it considers it essential to give security to the residents of San Salvador de Jujuy, of which servers are authorized to carry out this type of task within the city, ”Jorge said.
