Samsung Will Use The Latest Gorilla Glass Victus

INILAH, Jakarta- South Korean technology company, Samsung, will reportedly introduce a device with the latest Gorilla Glass from Corning, Victus.

“In the near future,” said Corning, quoted from Cnet, Sunday (07/26/2020).

For information, Samsung is scheduled to announce the latest mobile phones at the “Unpacked” on August 5.

In addition to the Galaxy Note, Samsung will also introduce a second generation Galaxy Fold screen phone and a new wearable device.

Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus, which was recently released, is claimed to have survived when it fell to a height of 2 meters on a hard surface. For comparison, the previous generation protective glass from Corning, Gorilla Glass 6, only survives at a height of 1 meter.

Gorilla Glass Victus is also claimed to be more scratch resistant than twice its predecessor, and up to four times more scratch resistant than protective glass made of aluminosilicate. In other words, it takes double the effort to be able to scratch Victus compared to Gorilla Glass 6.

“For the first time, we are increasing drop and scratch,” said Corning’s senior vice president and general manager of mobile consumer electronics business, John Bayne.

“Now with the average person retaining their cellphones for longer – close to 30 months, up from 24 months – they are replacing cellphones not because they are damaged, but because more scratches,” he added.

For consumers, Corning might be famous for Pyrex, the glassware in the kitchen. However, Corning also became the main supplier of glass screens for smartphones, TVs and other electronics.

Apple and Samsung cellphones use the latest technology from Corning, and last year, Apple invested $ 250 million in Corning – on top of a $ 200 million investment in 2017, for the development of glass for the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
