“He who is different is always bullied”

“All the children in the class are invited to this birthday party. Just not me.”

“I get annoyed every single break, my mouth is stuck with Tixo.”

“My ex-boyfriend sends revealing photos of me to his friends.”

“There is a separate Whatsapp group in which everyone is only concerned with getting ready for me.”

The issues with which Bernhard Diwald from the OÖ Child and Youth Ombudsman (KiJA) is confronted are diverse. “Every year we have 1,000 to 1,500 individual consultations relating to bullying and cyberbullying. The number is consistently high. ”Diwald is a psychotherapist and also heads the KiJA’s bullying hotline.

Cyberbullying is usually linked to specific events, for example at school, explains Christine Winkler-Kirchberger, child and youth advocate for the state of Upper Austria.
