whether this was a trend of Apple I still don’t know so much.
The European directive / obligation for a standard charging port on all devices was just made with the argument that the consumer was inundated by countless chargers of all kinds and sizes and if there was a standard method, more 1 charger was needed and among others. savings on packaging & transport; and the devices are sold cheaper because no charger was supplied with it.
Apple is the first to follow that guideline when omitting the charger. it is also the only one that still refuses to follow the guideline and supports the charging standard. USB-C and no Apple charger check and things like that.

I still hope that Tim would take a “better” path in this and share a little more with the rest of the world. CPU design, but also the lighting connector itself. I would much rather have seen it as standard than the USB-C.
