Sales of New Passenger Cars in the Czech Republic Rise by 16.8% YoY | SUVs Account for 45% of Registrations

Sales of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic in the first half of this year rose by 16.8 percent year-on-year to 115,548 vehicles. The increase in the share of cars with an alternative drive continues, it was 21.3 percent in the first half of the year. Almost 45 percent of newly registered passenger cars were sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

Year-on-year registrations of light commercial vehicles, trucks and motorcycles also increased, while buses fell. ČTK reported this from the Association of Automobile Importers (SDA).

New passenger cars have seen an improvement in deliveries, the importers’ association said. According to him, every fourth vehicle sold continues to belong to private individuals. Imports of used cars decreased by 8.9% year-on-year to 81,369 cars, almost a quarter were cars older than 15 years.

The brand holds the largest share among new passenger cars Škoda with 41,099 cars, which represents roughly 36%. It is followed by Hyundai with nine percent, Volkswagen with eight percent, Toyota with 7 percent, Kia with 5 percent and Mercedes-Benz with 4 percent. The best-selling models were Škoda Octavia (11,673 cars), Škoda Fabia (5,630) and Škoda Kamiq (4,949 cars).

After SUVs, in terms of business classes, in second place are lower middle class cars with a share of almost 16%, middle class with 12.5% ​​and small cars with almost 11%. Gasoline cars accounted for almost two-thirds of sales, diesel cars accounted for 26 percent and electric cars for roughly 2.6 percent. However, their registrations increased by 56% year-on-year to almost 3,000 cars with a purely electric drive. Cars with hybrid-electric drive increased by 3% compared to the first half of last year to 19,436.

Sales of new light commercial vehicles increased by 21.3% year-on-year to 10,726 cars. The first is the Renault brand with 1,768 registered cars, followed by Volkswagen and Opel.

For new trucks, sales increased by 17% to 5,250 vehicles. In the first half of the year, the Mercedes-Benz brand led with 993 new registrations, followed by Volvo, DAF, MAN, Scania and Iveco.

Compared to last year, sales of buses fell by 65.5% to 306 vehicles. Setra buses were the most sold, accounting for more than a third of the total number. Next in order were Iveco Bus, SOR and Mercedes-Benz.

Registrations of new motorcycles increased by less than two percent to 15,459 machines. Honda was the best seller with 4140 registrations, followed by CF Moto, Yamaha, BMW and KTM.
