(Boursier.com) — Saint Gobain is strengthening its position in Latin America with its local partner the El Volcan Group, in Chile (in fiber cement, mortars, insulation and plasterboard), in Colombia (in insulation and waterproofing), and in Brazil (in plasterboard). They signed an agreement covering their activities in Peru (mortars and plasterboard) and Argentina (plaster and plasterboard) which represent around 60 million euros in turnover, 6 factories and 450 employees.

Thanks to this transaction, Saint-Gobain is strengthening its partnership with the El Volcan group by extending it to two new Latin American countries. In each of these countries, the Group will thus be able to implement significant synergies leading to increased competitiveness and a reinforced commercial offer on the region’s construction markets, as has already been done successfully in Chile, in Colombia and Brazil.

In Peru, Saint-Gobain will acquire the company El Volcan Soluciones Constructivas (around € 20 million in sales), which specializes in the production and sale of plasterboard. After the merger of this new entity with the company SG Productos para la Construccion, specializing in the production and sale of mortars and 100% owned by the Saint-Gobain Group since December 2019, Saint-Gobain will retain 55% of the new consolidated group and will sell 45% to the El Volcan Group.

In Argentina, El Volcan will buy from Saint-Gobain 45% of the whole, including Tuyango, the historic plaster business, and Aswell, the plasterboard business acquired in the first quarter of 2019, Saint-Gobain becoming a 55% shareholder of this gypsum set in Argentina.
