Peter Sagan will not appear at the Tokyo Olympics due to a knee injury.
Sagan injured his knee with a converter while falling in the third stage of the Tour. The deep laceration healed well at first, but then became infected. Before the start of the 12th stage, the Bora-hansgrohe driver resigned, after which he underwent a minor operation in Monaco. He believed on Monday that he would be fit soon.
“Fortunately, it was just a superficial infection and the knee joint was undamaged,” Sagan said on social media barely 24 hours before he had to give up the Olympics for health reasons.

In London 2012, he finished 34th in the road race, five years ago in Rio de Janeiro, due to the demanding profile of the track, he preferred to start in cross country mountain biking and finished 35th. He has won the points competition seven times at the Tour de France in recent years. This year, he was only in ninth place in the fight for the green jersey.
