FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt must stop playing in the Northeast Regionalliga. Negotiations with a new potential investor that have been going on since the weekend have been unsuccessful. The club announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Until recently, insolvency administrator Volker Reinhardt had negotiated in parallel with several investors who had expressed interest in joining. Reinhardt and the players had decided by mutual agreement that the decision had to be made by Wednesday afternoon. “The players on the team have shown great patience. Most of them wanted to stay and have waited until today. They now have to be given the opportunity to change clubs before the end of the transfer period,” said Reinhardt, “I thank all players that they have have also contributed to the difficult situation for them and wish them all a successful sporting future. ” According to the footballers’ union VDV (Association of Contract Football Players), players cannot change after January 31, regardless of whether they still have a contract or not.

Dot games will be canceled – cup situation still open
With this decision, the relegation of the first team to the Oberliga is certain. The games played so far will be canceled. The table will be corrected accordingly. The situation in the Thuringia Cup, where RWE was in the semi-finals, is still unclear. The association has not yet made official statements. Sven Wenzel had previously spoken of a precedent and an individual decision. This has not happened since the introduction of the Thuringia Cup in 1990/1991. There would be no corresponding regulation in association law.
