Russian Soldier Maksim Kuzminov Shot Dead in Spain After Stealing Attack Helicopter for Ukrainian Army

The Russian soldier who stole an attack helicopter into the hands of the Ukrainian army last year has been shot dead in Spain. Spanish and Ukrainian media report this. The Ukrainian secret service has accused the death of 28-year-old Maksim Kuzminov Kyiv Post confirmed. A spokesperson did not provide details.

According to the newspaper, Kuzminov was found dead with five bullets in his body in a parking garage in Villajoyosa, a town on the Mediterranean Sea just north of Alicante. Authorities in Spain did not report Kuzminov’s death.

Kuzminov grounded his Mi8 helicopter at a Ukrainian airfield in the Kharkiv region in August last year. The aircraft had spare parts for fighter aircraft on board. The two other crew members didn’t know what he was planning to do. They were allegedly shot dead by Ukrainians because they did not want to surrender.

Don’t resign

Kuzminov did not want to participate in the war against Ukraine, but was not allowed to resign. The action is said to have been preceded by six months of negotiations with Ukrainian military intelligence. His family had previously been transferred to Ukraine.

A Russian helicopter pilot who landed his helicopter in Ukraine will receive a reward of 463,000 euros, the Ukrainian intelligence service later said.
