Russian Soldier Kills 5 Members of Ukrainian Sabotage Team at Border

MOSCOW – Five members of a Ukrainian sabotage group have been killed by Russian troops and FSB border guards after attempting to illegally cross the Russian border.

The latest worrying development was disclosed by the Southern Military District of Russia on Monday (21/2/2022).

That means the conflict has directly involved Russian and Ukrainian troops in the border region. Tensions are feared to continue to spread and lead to a more dangerous situation.

The developments come amid an escalating situation in the breakaway Donbass region of Ukraine. The Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics have reported intense shelling, mortar fire, sniper action and sabotage attacks by Ukrainian forces.

Militia in Donbass mobilized their reservists and announced the evacuation of civilians to Russia from Friday.

The incident took place on the border between Ukraine and the Rostov region in Russia. “Russian troops and border guards suffered no casualties,” the Russian military said in a statement, according to Sputnik.
